Hi Sandy
Thank you for reading and taking part in this discussion. It was an interesting experiment and the $15 is nothing to squack at. I live in the Grange Hill (East) neighbourhood. I would be very happy to learn more and I will be in contact. Please feel free to send me anything of interest to the consumer that you would like to see posted. Many of my clients are very interested in this type of information and I will do my best to provide true and relevant information.

Regards,

Tracey Manton

Hello Tracey,
As the Director of Corporate Communications for Guelph Hydro, I was interested to see your post.
I see your office is in Guelph but I'm just wondering what community you live in.

If you are in Guelph, I'm afraid the $15 a month savings (which is substantial!) can't be attributed to time-of-use rates since none of our customers are on the new rate plan yet.

It is great to hear that you are making efforts to reduce your energy consumption and get rid of phantom power. If that is where your savings came from, you have just proved how much you can save by simply taking steps so you are not wasting electricity. (Phantom load can account for up to 10% of the consumption in the average home.)

I'd be happy to provide more details about time-of-use rates and analyze your savings if that would be helpful. I can be reached at Guelph Hydro at 519-837-4703.

Here is electric-bill cost comparison between California and Texas [where I live].

My wife and I conducted a conservation plan using your techniques ... we discovered there is a level of electricity consumption we cannot get below without changing expected comforts of the home. I suspect each home has the same threshold line, and the larger the home, obviously the higher the line is.
